Catechesis for July 2 2006 3rd Sunday after Trinity

Begin with Luther’s Morning Prayer
Books of the Bible (Moses wrote the Pentateuch – first five books)

What is Augsburg (city in Germany)? When was the Augsburg Confession signed (June 25, 1530)? How many years ago was that (476)? Who wrote the Augsburg Confession (Phillip Melancthon)? Who signed the AG (princes of Germany)? To whom did they present it (Charles, Emperor of Germany)?

Review What the Hearers Owe Their Pastors.
The Lord has commanded that those who preach the Gospel should receive their living from the Gospel. I Cor 9:14

Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor. Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Gal 6:6-7

We ask you brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.
I Thess. 5:12-13

Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you. Heb. 13:17

Review Of Citizens

Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s. Matt 22:21

Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men; whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. I Peter 2:13-14

New Lesson This is the Trinity season. It is the non-festival part of the church year. The color on the altar is green because this is considered ordinary time – the time of growth. It is the longest part of the church year. This Sunday is the 3rd Sunday after Trinity. What do you think next Sunday will be called?

Memorize: Explain the Table of Duties & vocation
Let each his lesson learn with care, and all the household well shall fare.

Of Citizens Explain that this verse teaches us to daily pray for President Bush, Govenor Taft our mayors and other governing authorities so that all runs smoothly and we can lead a peaceful life. What would it be like if there were no authority and everyone did whatever they wanted? Those in authority are placed there by God for our benefit. They are first article of the Creed gifts “He richly and daily provides me with all that I need to support this body and life. He defends me against all danger and guards and protects me from all evil.” He does that through people for whom we should pray.

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior. I Timothy 2: 1-3

Explain, read and enact the Gospel lesson: Luke 15: 1-10 God searches us out – we don’t go to him
